Old Musings - August 2003

28 Aug 2003

Just thought everybody would like to know - I had my first 'elk' burger for lunch yesterday.

Another day, another country. *Sigh* Life can just be so boring at times. ;-)

Today I'm in Dallas, TX. Work decided to send me over here for a while - so here I am.

The flight to LA went reasonably smoothly. Unfortunately American Airlines does not have a business class, so for the flight from Los Angeles to Dallas we had to rough it in first class. I swear, the things that we have to put up with these days!

Any-who, I'm going to be stuck here for at least the next couple of months so I plan to post many more photos when/if/as time allows. So check back often!

In the mean time, check here and here.

Oh, almost forgot. When I found out that I was going somewhere interesting again, I went out and got myself a new camera (a Canon 10D digital SLR to be precise). You might notice that the photos have a different aspect ratio now. (3:2 instead of 4:3)

Ok, I've finally been guilted into making another update.

Of course there is nothing much to report - which is why I am just going to post some photos of my new computer.

It is a Shuttle XPC SN41G2 small form factor (SFF) PC, about the size of a (tall) shoe box. I've always wanted a nice small PC, but until now they were always a compromise - small & too slow or too big but powerful enough to play games. But now they are coming out with a huge range of expansion capabilities (Firewire, USB2.0, PCI, even an AGP slot for a truly grunty video card when I feel like upgrading), in addition to a knock-out motherboard chipset (5.1 optical out, built-in GForce4 MX, 100Mbs Ethernet). So I decided to splash out and get me one.

Naturally, having a bog-standard box is unheard of, which is why I also added in a blue Matrix Orbital MX222 LCD display. It just sits there and shows me all kinds of info. For example, I can now see from the display that it is raining outside without having to look out the window. Of course there are a number of other nice things it does, like doing a bouncy-bar display when playing MP3's, showing my frame rate in games etc. OK, so that may not excite everyone. Guess it must be a geek thing.

For those that can't quite appreciate the full extent of my new bundle of joy, here's something a little bit more down to earth. Well, more like in the sky. Well... whatever.

Here are a couple of photos of a recent sunset anyway.

Finally, I've been going through my recent holiday snaps, and decided to post a couple more 'Fauna' shots. <grin>

Awe, isn't she just the cutest?
