Old Musings - April through May 2001

26 May 2001

No updates for a while - sorry! To make it up, I've thrown in an extra lot of photos for you...

Just got back from Sydney. Work sent me up there for the week to go on a course. I took the time to do some sightseeing (see the new photos in the Photos section!).

The weather is holding out quite nicely at the moment - shorts and a t-shirt is still the standard fare around here.

Gotta go - Big Brother is on again! Who do you think is going to win?

Just as I finished writing the last update, it started raining again - and just kept on going until this morning. :( But now that the sun is out again, I can take off my extra pair of socks :)

Banks are not my favourite places at the moment. I got a letter that my credit card was ready to be picked up, so I took a couple of hours off to make my way into town. When I got there they spent half an hour searching, only to be told that they haven't received it yet. Come in later in the week they said. No apology - nothing. Grrr. When it does finally arrive, I am seriously considering telling them to go put the card in a very unpleasant place.

On the a lighter note, we had another round of the university soccer comps yesterday. Our opponents looks rather familiar - they were one of the other work teams. Despite the kinship, we didn't go soft on them - and they didn't show us any favours either (which is evident from a nice blue bruise on my knee). Despite this we managed to win, and secured ourselves a spot in the top for teams in the comp.

Pretty horrible weather this weekend. It started raining early Saturday morning, and it is only now starting to clear up. I've _never_ seen it rain so hard. There was flash flooding everywhere. Cars were sticking to the middle of the road, because the water was just too deep in the outer lanes.

I tried to go shopping to find a replacement for my demonic VCR, but the shops here don't seem to carry the models I am interested in. Looks like I might have to do a spot of online purchasing for this one. (Oh, and while I think of it, the VCR is not the only household appliance which has a mind of its own apparently. Take a look at <this>)

Not much to report today. Weather is still nice and warm during the day, but it is getting a bit too cool in the evenings. Still not worth buying a heater though.

I've decided it is about time to buy a new video recorder. It would appear that my old one is now posessed by the devil. I was happily playing on the computer last night when all of a sudden - from across the room - it started to rewind the tape. I've heard about these sort of things before. I believe that there was an X-files on spontaneous video reversals. That was some seriously Scary Stuff.

Played soccer at lunchtime - work has 3 teams entered in a uni competition. We won 1-0. Yay! The games are only last for 20 minutes. For some reason, the ref only let us play for 15 - but who am I to argue?

The big boss at work (J.B.) finally succumbed to the knife. His head of hair was whisked away. Unfortunately I was stuck in a meeting so there are no photos to go with that.

When I got home, I bumped into one of my neighbours. It would appear that getting my bike lights stolen was getting of easy - that same night, he lost _everything_ off his bike. The only thing left was his bike frame and a chain. Hmmm. Makes you think. What was wrong with my bike?

Had to bike to work in the rain this morning - and to make things even worse, I discovered on the way that someone stole the lights off my bike sometime last night (but left my bike computer - figure that one out!). Grrr...

Work had a 'Shave for a Cure' today to raise money for leukaemia. Eight people at work decided to either go bald - or have a blue rinse in aid of a good cause. No. I was not one of them, but I made sure I got all the action on film. I wasn't the only one that had that idea apparently - there were a couple of labs cameras floating about, as well as a photographer from a paper and even a tv crew!

Another major event - I challenged #1 on the squash ladder and wreaked my revenge. Yes, that is right, I've got the squash trophy back again!

Weather starting to get a bit overcast these days. It started raining during soccer after work. Great fun :). Nothing beats slip-sliding across grass/mud under the floodlights. Downside : having to bike home in the wet.

Tomorrow : Playing the current number 1 on the squash ladder (I lost my trophy last week :( - time to get it back now)

Welcome to my brand spanking new web-site!

photopoint.com want to start charging for me to store my photos, so I thought that it was about time to set up my own website and store photos there. I might not be able to store the same number of photos, but at least I don't have to put up with those horrible ads!

I've tried to keep the site design simple (hence as fast as possible for you modem users out there <g>) - but hopefully it still looks cool.

(Oh, and I kinda copied the design for the page from another website, so if it looks familiar - don't tell them :) )
