Old Musings - January 2002

Sydney Bush Fires

Update : The bushfires crisis has now been declared over. The pollution levels are getting back to normal and the sun (and rain) has returned.

General Photos - lots of smoke

Satellite Photo - (taken 2 Jan 2002) Wollongong is under  the bottom smoke stack, Sydney is between the two huge ones. Both cities are along the coastline - check the map to get an idea of scale.

Not much to report lately. The fires are gone, pollution levels are back to normal and it is raining quite a bit these days.

I've been enjoying the cricket lately, what with the Kiwis beating the Australian and all <evil grin>

This weekend is shaping up well. Saturday (the 26th) is going to be Australia day. On Friday, work is organising a barbie down at the beach in the morning, and we get Monday off.

Web Update
Guestbook fixed - feel free to leave lots of messges again
New conspiracy added - Lord of the Rings!

The bush fires are still burning, although Elvis seems to be getting things under control. A couple of days ago we had beautiful clear skies, but this morning it was smoky again. It was hard to get away from the smell while biking to work this morning.

As you may have noticed, I have spruced up the site a bit. Hope you like it - tough luck if you don't ;). It may take a while, but I am going through some of the older stuff, laying it out differently, fixing things up (like the guestbook) and general things like that. First to be revamped is the links section. It just took too much time to add a new link, so I have opted for a simpler style and added a whole new lot of links in to boot.

Web Update
Fresh new look.
Links revamped, new links added.
More Photos of my view (Air Quality).
Satellite Photo of the Area added.

The bush fires continue - with no end in site. The air has become a bit more breathable though, and every now and then we actually get to see a patch of blue sky. To make a record of this, I've created a page which will show you what the view from my kitchen looks like. I will attempt to update this once a day. As you can see, New Years day was not a fun day to be stuck indoors.

Although the bush fires are still raging, people have a bit more hope, now that they have seen Elvis in action. I managed to snap a quick shot as he went past.

On another topic, Australia has big bugs. Some very big bugs. I caught this cicada taking a nap in by the front door last night.

Web Update
Start of a new month - Ramblings for December archived away.
Photo of Elvis added to 'Bush Fire' photos.
Added Air Quality Monitor web page.
Added cicada photo to 'Flora and Fauna' section.
